What is excavation?

Excavation is the process of removing soil to form a cavity in the ground. In every construction project, whether it be residential, commercial, or industrial, excavation is crucial. While the excavation does include laying the foundation, it’s far more intricate than just digging a hole and pouring some concrete. The process involves setting up all the proper drainage, laying sewer pipes and plenty more.

SAFTEY MEASURES:

  1. Locate underground utilities with the help of local utility service before digging.
  2. Maintain 10-foot distance between utility poles and excavation
  3. Keep workers away in an excavation or trench when equipment is in use.
  4. Keep equipment and excavated dirt 2 ft. back from the edge of the excavation.
  5. Provide workers a way to get into and out of a trench or excavation such as ladders and ramps.
  6. Use shoring, trench boxes, or slope back for excavations and utility trenches over 4 ft. deep.
  7. Use a water pump or drainage system to keep water out of trenches.
  8. Inspect the area for soil movement and potential cave‐ins.
